Benchmark: Case Study

Benchmark is a global electronics solutions provider for high technology OEM Customers, providing comprehensive value-creation solutions throughout the product lifecycle by supplying innovative design engineering services, optimized global supply chain and logistics solutions, and world-class manufacturing and after-market support.

When their existing clean room facilities were being rebuilt and upgraded, Benchmark’s research and development arm in The Netherlands made an enquiry to Pronexos (formerly EMS) as to the availability of a clean room with support staff. Their requirement was to build electricity supply cabinets, in which the wiring and sub-components needed to be assembled in clean room conditions. Pronexos offers a flexible approach to clean room services and facilities, as well as highly competent, fully trained and experienced staff to support clean room facility activities.

Specifically, Benchmark were seeking a 300m2 clean room with up to ten full time support technicians. When Pronexos confirmed that this need could be met, Benchmark visited the Pronexos site at Almelo to see the capabilities for themselves. Pronexos was more than capable of fulfilling the need, and demonstrated that they are able to work with Benchmark’s existing tooling, documentation regime and systems.

Initially a team of highly qualified and experienced Pronexos technicians visited Benchmark for two weeks of training and process qualification. Then a team from Benchmark came on-site at the Almelo manufacturing facility and, working collaboratively with Pronexos staff, a joint team of around 20 colleagues built up the assembly line in the clean room. Once this was installed and qualified production started, a little over 10 weeks after the initial enquiry.

The project ran successfully for 6 months, producing around four cabinets per week. Pronexos was able to add value to the customer’s processes by enhancing component quality in certain wiring situations, as well as offering process enhancements to work more efficiently. Working collaboratively, the teams were able to manage logistical issues without any problems, and the project was completed with a perfect record of workplace safety compliance.
